Triple Threat Hoops

The History of Triple Threat Hoops

Triple Threat Hoops was born on February 23, 2006 in Cedar Rapids, IA to give underprivileged, inner-city, minority, and overlooked or under-recruited student-athletes throughout the state of Iowa (with an emphasis in the Iowa City-Cedar Rapids area first and then throughout Iowa) the opportunity to play on the spring/summer national AAU circuit to enhance the opportunities of the players to be seen by college coaches in the pursuit of using their god-given athletic abilities as a means to the end of financing and receiving a college education.  We believe that by reinforcing the virtues of hard work, discipline, and teamwork in a positive team structure, we can influence the lives of our young student-athletes on their quest to become educated young men who will play a vital role in our society's future as good citizens and role models to their peers as well as to the next generation.

Donations

The Triple Threat Hoops Program is reaching out to parents, volunteers, community leaders and all others interested in helping with this and future years funding as we look to expand our program to reach out to more kids by growing to the level of 3 different age group programs, 15U, 16U, & 17U.  Our program started with one 17u team in the spring/summer of 2006 and will expand to a 16u, 17u, & 19u team in the spring/summer of 2007.

This program's mission is to give inner-city and/or underprivileged talented high-school basketball players in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area and throughout Iowa an option to compete on the spring/summer AAU circuit who otherwise would not have the financial means to play and get the meaningful exposure to college coaches that is necessary in this day and age to garner potential athletic scholarship offers whether they be full-ride scholarships or partial athletic/financial aid packages all aimed at helping our youth here in IOWA get the opportunities to get a college education.  We feel that many talented athletes, especially inner-city athletes are priced out of the national AAU scene here in Iowa due to high fees to play for AAU programs and are working very hard to give another option for these kids.  By teaching hard work, teamwork, discipline, and reinforcing the need for solid academics we are working to help our inner-city youth overcome obstacles by using their abilities to receive a college education and enhance their future and the respective communities they will become parts of as they grow from boys to men. We cannot achieve these goals without the help of the community and our business leaders so we ask that you lend a helping hand in any way that your organization can do so.  We also would like to make this organization a 501(c) 3 organization but in order to do that we need community support or sponsorship to make this transition.

In order to achieve this ultimate goal we really need you, the community, to support these young men by donating to their futures.  Therefore, we would like to ask you to consider a donation to the Triple Threat AAU program; all donations go directly to tournament fees, hotel fees, travel costs, basketballs and uniforms.  Any questions can be directed via email to triple_threathoops@yahoo.com, or directly to Jamie Pettigrew at 319-631-3460 or Armond Dawson at 319-651-7096.  We will honor all persons/businesses that contribute at any level on this website and link to your website.
